INEC Opens 2027 Election Ad-hoc Staff Recruitment — Apply Before 18 November

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its online recruitment portal for Nigerians interested in working as temporary ad-hoc personnel during the 2027 General Elections.

The recruitment exercise is being conducted through the INEC Portal for Recruitment of Election Staff, known as INECPRES. Interested and qualified Nigerians can apply for different election-related positions, depending on their educational qualifications, employment status and professional background.

According to the official INECPRES portal, applications opened on 18 September 2026 and will close at midnight on Wednesday, 18 November 2026.

This is an opportunity for eligible Nigerians, including serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, qualified former corps members, eligible tertiary institution students and certain government employees.

Available INEC Ad-hoc Positions

The 2027 election recruitment exercise covers five categories of temporary election personnel:

1. Supervisory Presiding Officer (SPO): Supervises and coordinates election activities within assigned areas, ensuring that polling officials perform their duties according to INEC guidelines.
2. Presiding Officer (PO): Responsible for managing polling unit activities, supervising the voting process and ensuring that election procedures are followed.
3. Assistant Presiding Officer (APO): Supports the Presiding Officer in carrying out polling unit responsibilities.
4. Registration Area Centre (RAC) Manager: Coordinates the activities and administrative arrangements at designated Registration Area Centres.
5. Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH): Provides technical assistance and support for election technology and related equipment.

Applicants should note that the eligibility requirements differ between the positions. Meeting the general conditions does not automatically qualify someone for every category.

Who Can Apply for INEC Ad-hoc Recruitment?

INEC has identified different categories of people who may qualify, depending on the position they intend to apply for.

Eligible applicants may include:

  • Serving NYSC corps members.
  • Former corps members who completed their service in 2024, 2025 or 2026, where they meet the applicable requirements.
  • Eligible penultimate-year students of Federal and State tertiary institutions, including students with relevant IT knowledge for technical positions.
  • Qualified permanent employees of Federal and State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
  • Eligible government employees who meet the required grade-level and qualification conditions.
  • Qualified INEC staff and ICT personnel.
  • Heads of institutions or eligible staff members of institutions designated to host Registration Area Centres.

For example, the Supervisory Presiding Officer category has specific public-service and grade-level conditions. The Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer categories have separate eligibility provisions for NYSC members, eligible students and certain government employees.

RATECH applicants must meet the technical and ICT-related conditions set by INEC.

Before applying, candidates should consult the official recruitment guidelines and confirm that they meet the requirements for their preferred position.

Important Conditions for Applicants

INEC has established conditions that applicants must satisfy before they can be considered for engagement.

Applicants must not be members of any political party. They must also not have publicly demonstrated or expressed support for a political candidate or political party.

Applicants are generally expected to reside in the state they select during registration, except where the applicable requirements provide an exception for RATECH applicants.

Candidates must provide accurate personal, educational and employment information. Any applicant who submits false information or fails to satisfy the conditions for the selected position may be disqualified.

It is important to understand that applying does not guarantee selection. Successful applicants will be subject to INEC’s screening, training and deployment arrangements.
